Spoons, Spoons, Forks, Forks, Knives, Knives
My nine year old successfully put away the silverware today for his chore, without me asking. I know, “9? Sheesh Annie, get it together, my 2 year old can do that.”
But hear me out, for years, and I mean yearrrrrrs my kitchen was messy. And when the kids helped, it just made everything worse. And that made me feel worse, so instead of cleaning the kitchen I’d rewatch more episodes of a mind numbing show.
One day, when explaining the silverware system to my kids, I just kept it simple, I pointed to each section and repeated the pattern- “Spoons, spoons, forks, forks, knives, knives.” And repeated it again, while pointing, “Spoons, spoons, forks, forks, knives, knives.”
So simple right? Fool proof am I right? It totally worked right?
Nope.
Yes I had a simple, fool proof system, but something else was going on. I still BELIEVED, and FELT and ACTED like my kitchen was ALWAYS dirty. I didn’t do the dishes at night or put things away because face it, what’s the point? “The kitchen is always dirty”.
I was repeating thoughts, beliefs and actions the OPPOSITE of my intention for my kitchen, which is: “My kitchen is clean and organized and full of yummy food.”
There were things I started to do and be prompted to do as I kept this intention. I would be inspired to click on Pinterest and see one photo that showed me an organized drawer that worked. Or I reached out to a professional organizer and traded services with her (LIFE CHANGER RIGHT THERE). I learned that I didn’t know how to set myself up for success, despite the intention of a “clean and organized kitchen.”
But once I worked my way up the energetic ladder to “it’s possible for things to change, maybe it doesn’t have to stay this way, I’m excited to see what’s possible.” Well that’s when things changed.
The point of this whole silverware drawer story is this, are there areas in your life where you have good intentions (maybe even around Chrismastime) but your COUNTER- INTENTIONS (blocks, negative beliefs, ego habits, identities etc) are in the way.
Like, “I feel the peaceful Christmas spirit”, but your COUNTER INTENTIONS are beliefs like, these:
-2020 is the worst
-only kids feel the Christmas spirit
-I can feel the Christmas feeling once I’m done shopping/baking/serving etc.
-My family messed me up too much to enjoy Christmas
-Commercialism ruined the Christmas spirit
Then we have the EMOTIONS that these counter intentions are trying to hide: Grief, shame, doubt, fear, greed, loneliness, despair, rejection…
Etc etc etc.
All beliefs. All untrue.
At the root of ALL EGO beliefs is this:
I AM NOT ENOUGH.
And parts of that story are: “I am not enough, there never will be enough and IT HAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THIS WAY.”
Only EGO believes and spins this lie because it is separate from God. WHICH YOU ARE NOT.
I’m sorry for the yelling, but sheesh. YOU ARE NOT.
You are a piece of God. A perfect, eternal, flawless, infinite, abundant piece of the universe. You are LOVE itself, experiencing itself in a human body in a crazy world in a made up year of 2020 (cuz time doesn’t exist).
YOU CAN HAVE A CLEAN KITCHEN and YOU CAN HAVE A PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS.
And you don’t have to remove every stinking block in the way to those intentions before they can manifest in your life.
Anything is possible my dear, yes, even in 2020.
I love you. I see you. I’m so excited for your Christmas and the beautiful 2021 and for the perfect, present moment right now.
