Becoming Christlike
Draw near unto me and I shall draw unto you. No purer or simpler words have been stated. Becoming Christlike is a goal we have had in front of us our entire lives, taught to us by our teachers and parents and neighbors. Yet so few of us have missed the mark. We are lost in the confusion of guilt, shame, fear, and feelings of unworthiness. When we are lost in those feelings and beliefs that somehow we have to be "good" enough to become like Christ, or "prove" that we can be like Him, it as the same as a mouse running on the wheel. The harder the effort, the faster it spins, and there we are left, exhausted, worn out and frustrated because we still are exactly where we started.
Who we truly are and who we believe we are couldn’t be any farther from the truth.
You are an infitnite being of light, with no creation and no end, you don’t have to “try” to become Christlike, because that is who you already are. All you have to do is clear out the garbage in your life and in your head to find the truth, that you truly already are Christlike.
Growing up I had a hard time with the "commandments". Probably just because I don't like people telling me what to do. But if you break down the "why" to the commandments, it really makes sense. Behold I am in you and you are in me” Christ said. “I am the light and the life of the world, I am in all things and around all things and through all things.”
Jesus Christ was a perfect human being, meaning he felt all the feelings we feel, and all the emotions, and all the thoughts, and experienced every experience that is conceivably possible for a human to have, and he still loved everyone. Completely. Totally. Unconditionally loved everyone. He also loved himself. He was full of peace and understanding. When you are full of peace and understanding you feel good. When you know who you are you feel good and you have true peace.
when you break a commandment? you don't have peace. When you break a commandment? You don't feel good. It's as simple as that. Keeping the commandments makes you feel better and it keeps you closer to who you truly are. Your true authentic self is honest, kind, patient, understanding, full of long suffering, charitable, merciful, generous and loving. Your true self knows it can have whatever it wants and doesn't base its worth on things, which means it never covets. Your true self understands who you are and who other people are on this earth, so it respects its parents. It doesn't gossip. It doesn't have a need to even think about being separate from anyone or anything. It is beneath no one. It is above no one. It is nothing. It is everything.
When you break commandments you aren't being Christlike, you are denying your true self.
" Behold I am in you and you are in me” Christ said. “I am the light and the life of the world, I am in all things and around all things and through all things.” If Christ is the life of all things, if he is in all things, that includes you. That includes everything that is light or energy, which includes you. And your neighbor. and your parents. and your beautiful children. and your favorite flower.
so if He is part of us, and part of who we are, why are we "trying" to become like Him, like some foreign distant destination? I believe truly becoming Christlike means living like He did. Feeling all the feelings (anger, upset, denial, jealousy, depression, anxiety, unworthiness, bitterness, lust, all of it) and simply letting them go. Giving them to God. continuing on with just being super awesome. and patient. and kind. and oh, performing miracles.
when you don't let go of the feelings. when you grab a few and identify with them. when you make them your entire life and existence, and then "Try" to be like Christ while at the same time you actually believe you are those other false identities? well that's a crap deal. I always laugh that everyone is running around trying to check all the boxes that will get them into heaven so they don't end up in Hell, when they literally ALREADY ARE in hell. Hell on earth is living in constant anxiety. Hell on earth is debilitating depression. Hell on earth is feeling hopeless, alone, trapped and in despair. Hell on earth is worrying 24/7 what people think of you. Hell on earth is what the majority of humans are living, right now, at this very moment.
Do you believe God would ever ask you to do something you couldn't actually do?
How cruel would that be?
So when Christ tells you to "Come unto Me", it's possible. The way is simple, and sacred, and true. But it's there. You weren't meant to run around feeling miserable your whole life because you aren't "Christlike enough". NO, it's about remembering who you are and what you are made of ALWAYS. at ALL TIMES. No matter what. That brings you true joy. And true peace. That is Heaven on Earth.
You are light. You are truth. You are a perfect piece of God.
Shine on bright one, shine on.
